| 1. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has taken a step toward fostering research integrity by giving higher education institutions with retracted papers and their citations negative points. | 2. Uttarakhand, which has 69% forest cover and is a biodiversity hotspot in the Himalayas, has started a groundbreaking campaign to bring back 14 plant species that are on the verge of extinction. After four years of scientific cultivation and habitat mapping, the Uttarakhand Forest Department’s Research Wing is leading this initiative to bring rare plants back to their original habitats. The project started in July 2025, which was also the start of the monsoon season. | 3. India just successfully test-fired two short-range ballistic missiles that can carry nuclear weapons, the Prithvi-II and the Agni-I, from the Integrated Test Range off the coast of Odisha. These tests show that the missiles are ready and strengthen India’s strategic deterrence. | 4. The Uttar Pradesh government’s 2025 plan to combine government schools with low enrollment has caused a lot of discussion. Local groups and leaders of the opposition say that the change could make it harder for girls and other marginalized youngsters to get an education. The Allahabad High Court has backed the government’s position, even though there have been protests. These cities came in first in the new Super Swachh League, which honors cities that keep their sanitation up to a high standard. | 7. The discovery of a new lichen species called Allographa effusosoredica in the Western Ghats is a step forward in study on biodiversity. Scientists in India employed both traditional and molecular methods to figure out what this species is. | 8. Recently, the Indian Navy put INS Nistar into service at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. Hindustan Shipyard Limited built this ship, which is the first of two diving support vessels (DSVs) that they planned and built themselves.
